Catalyst Research and Development Pilot Seed Grant Program, Round 3

The Catalyst Research and Development Pilot Seed Grant Program, Round 3 will focus on all industry sectors except therapeutic drug discovery, which was covered in Round 2. Funding for each grant in this category remains unchanged and is capped at $75,000. It is anticipated that twenty awards will be made in this round.
The objectives of the Catalyst R&D Program (Round 3) are to:
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Eligible applicants can propose a project of up to one year in duration and with a maximum budget of $75,000. First disbursement of 80% at the execution of grant agreement. Second disbursement of 20% after Final report is submitted.
The program is intended for early-stage New Jersey innovation-based companies developing or testing technologies transform new discoveries from research stage into commercially viable technologies, leading to industry and investor interest in the following target areas:
- Advanced Manufacturing
- Advanced Transportation and Logistics
- Film and Digital Media
- Life Sciences – (medical devices, diagnostics, platforms, non-drug therapeutics
- Non-Retail Food and Beverage
- Professional and Financial Services (fintech, etc.)
- Technology (hard tech, AI, software development, machine learning, etc.)
ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA
Each applicant to the Catalyst Seed Grant Round 3 Program must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Be authorized and in good standing to conduct business in New Jersey as evidenced by a current New Jersey tax clearance certificate (listing New Jersey Commission on Science, Innovation and Technology). All certificates listing another state agency will be rejected.
- Have no more than 50 full-time equivalent (FTE) workers (FTE calculated on a 35-hour work week) at time of application.
- Have a minimum of one full-time worker (calculated on a 35-hour work week). A founder can be counted as a worker; a worker may be paid or unpaid.
- 50% or more of the cumulative hours worked by all workers, founders, and contractors must be conducted in New Jersey (as calculated on a full-time equivalent basis of 35 hours per week).
- Have less than or equal to $5,000,000 in prior calendar year sales revenue (excluding grant revenue).
- New eligibility criteria for Round 3 of the Program are:
- Applicants are limited to a single application.
- Recipients of two or more active CSIT Seed or Demonstration Grants are ineligible for this Program.

AWARD SIZE
Eligible applicants can propose a project of up to one year in duration and with a maximum budget of $75,000. An extension for up to an additional 3 months may be permitted at the sole discretion of CSIT.
