It is NOT for startups/teams interested in participating in the AI Innovation Challenge events.
Through this competitive Program, NJEDA will select an Administrator to develop and execute a statewide AI Innovation Challenge. The Administrator will also disburse and manage awards to winning teams/companies.
The AI Innovation Challenge is a series of events where cutting-edge technology teams/companies build AI-based software solutions using NJ State data, to advance social and public good in the State.

PROGRAM DETAILS
- NJEDA’s AI Innovation Challenge Administration Grant Program is a competitive program that will select and disburse funding to an eligible Administrator.
- The Administrator will develop and manage a statewide AI Innovation Challenge (“AI Challenge”). The Administrator will also disburse and manage awards to AI Challenge winners
- The AI Challenge will be a series of events where early-stage companies and teams build AI-based software solutions using NJ State data. Winning companies/teams will receive grants to further develop and launch their software solutions, and mentorship/advisory support from the Administrator’s network of experts.
- Applications to be the AI Challenge Administrator will be accepted during a defined application window. After the window has closed, NJEDA staff will review all applications for completeness and compliance with eligibility criteria required documentation. All complete and compliant Administrator applications will be evaluated, scored, and ranked by an Evaluation Committee comprised of NJEDA staff. The top-scoring proposal will be recommended for Board approval. The approved Administrator would be awarded $3,800,000 in grant funding to be used in accordance with the established milestones.
AWARD SIZE
A single grant of $3,800,000 will be awarded to the selected Administrator for the Program on a milestone basis, as follows:
- Milestone 1: Selection of Administrator based on NJEDA’s eligibility criteria and scoring. Disbursement of funds for direct/indirect administrative costs for AI Challenge. No more than $456,000 can be disbursed under this milestone.
- Milestone 2: Administrator’s selection of AI Challenge winners, based on a scoring matrix and judging panel established by the Administrator. Disbursement of funds to the Administrator for sub-grant awards to the winners, to further develop prototype towards Minimum Viable Product (MVP). The Administrator must select between 5-10 winners, and no more than $1,000,000 can be disbursed under this milestone.
- Milestone 3: Administrator’s demonstration of successful MVP development by winners, and hosting of Demo Day Event. Disbursement of funds to the Administrator for sub-grant awards to the winners, to work towards pilot demonstration or commercialization of software solutions post-Demo Day. The Administrator must further review and determine follow-on funding based on performance for select winners, and no more than $2,344,000 can be disbursed under this milestone.

$1000 non-refundable application fee for Administrator Applicants.
