NJEDA to Open Applications for Take Charge Program

Take Charge Program will support electric vehicle infrastructure coupled with solar and energy storage deployment

TRENTON, N.J. (September 30, 2026) – The New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) will open applications for the Take Charge Program on Monday, October 5, 2026. An informational webinar will be held the same day for interested applicants to learn more about the program and process. The Take Charge Program will provide funding for charging infrastructure projects for private commercial fleets, helping bring more electric vehicles onto New Jersey’s roadways.  Projects must also install on-site renewable energy generation and/or energy storage systems to help manage power demand for chargers.

WHAT:              The $25 million Take Charge Program will help cover the costs, including hardware and related installation costs, of establishing electric vehicle charging infrastructure for private commercial fleets. Private fleets interested in adopting electric vehicles require consistently available and reliable charging infrastructure but often face high costs for installation and site upgrades necessary for charger operation.

The NJEDA will provide grant awards ranging from $100,000 to $5 million to reimburse applicants for 50% of project costs, which can be increased by 5-10% based on eligibility for certain bonus criteria. This program is funded by the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) proceeds allocated to the NJEDA and will accelerate the adoption of zero-emission transportation solutions in New Jersey. 

WHO:                Eligible applicants include for-profit commercial organizations that are purchasing and installing electric vehicle charging infrastructure in New Jersey. Projects must also install on-site renewable energy generation and/or energy storage systems to help manage power demand for chargers.

Organizations must have 2 or more existing commercial-use vehicles, including light-duty, medium-duty, heavy-duty, off-road, or maritime vehicles. A complete list of eligibly requirements can be found here.
